PERSONAL RESEARCH INTERESTS
My interests center on audience analysis, specifically investigating viewing habits and preferences, as well as the development of passionate fandoms. The exploration includes how these fandoms interact with intellectual properties (IPs), related media content, and merchandise. There is a particular focus on how fans and communities use technology to express their dedication to their favorite IPs through content creation and sharing.
The media I study often originate from Northeast Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea, examining these countries' social and cultural contexts, particularly their diverse media productions and intertwined pop cultures. This includes Japanese Otaku culture, encompassing Anime, Manga, Light Novels, Visual Novels, Video Games, and J-pop; Hallyu (Korean Wave) culture, featuring Korean dramas and K-pop; and Chinese pop culture, including Manhua, Chinese dramas, Chinese animation, and martial arts films. The understanding also extends to the operations of major media conglomerates in these regions, such as Sony, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., and Taeyoung.
Additionally, I study Western audiences, analyzing their engagement with various media forms and the cultural phenomena surrounding them. This comprehensive exploration of both Eastern and Western media landscapes provides a deep understanding of how global media influences and shapes fan communities and their engagement with IPs.
