I did this as part of an 80s pop culture photo shoot for my 29th Birthday
For this graphic design project, I needed to create a poster for a real music festival. I chose the Totally Tubular Festival because I have a deep love for most things in the 80s, including the music and iconic media from that era. Being born in 1989, the 80s hold a special place in my heart. Creating the poster was challenging due to the lack of images from the actual concert, as this was the festival's first year. To overcome this, I researched the festival's promotional strategies on their website and social media.
I discovered they were evoking 80s nostalgia by showcasing elements like 80s music, movies, TV shows, tapes, vinyl records, and boom boxes, along with other iconic pop culture items. Inspired by this, I created multiple sketches centered around various 80s electronics and audio packaging. Ultimately, I chose the vinyl record cover design for the final poster. The album cover format provided ample space to capture 80s pop culture while conveying all the necessary information about the upcoming festival.
